I&#8217;ve got a whole toolbox that informs how we work together.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:43%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-295\" style=\"width:396px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/www.bearburns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Bear-20-scaled.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:57%\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As an integrative counsellor, I blend together approaches from a wide variety of psychotherapeutic models and schools of thought including:<\/span> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buddhist, mindfulness and compassion based therapies (i.e. the RAIN approach by Tara Brach)<\/span>; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; person centred counselling; Internal Family Systems (IFS or parts work ; somatic therapy; neuroscience; evolutionary biology; Gestalt and Structural Dissociation Theory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What this means for you:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These approaches blend together in infinitely creative ways but here are some of the main headlines:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have an implicit <strong>trust in your power<\/strong>, your choice and your ability to grow and change over time.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will be <strong>deeply valued<\/strong> as a whole human being, not a reductive collection of symptoms or behaviours or pathologies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recognise that life can be painful and uncertain whilst appropriately <strong>honouring losses<\/strong>, as well as giving expression to grief, anger, resentment, powerlessness and rage.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My approach understands that the innate survival biology we\u2019ve inherited from our wild past meshes badly with the super-abundant conditions of modern life ie. our dopamine reward systems.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A perspective that creates <strong>space for all the parts of you<\/strong> (even the ones you thoroughly hate), improving your relationship with yourself and developing a spirit of acceptance which is paradoxically the foundation for change.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An acknowledgement that <strong>traumatic experiences can leave us feeling fragmented<\/strong>, and with a journey of recovering and bringing those parts of ourselves back together.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A belief that <strong>you can\u2019t hate yourself into the best version of yourself.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the day, therapy produces <strong>real conversations about the things that really matter<\/strong> in our lives.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If all of that seems a bit complex to understand, <strong>don\u2019t worry<\/strong>. You don\u2019t need to read up on anything or learn the different approaches a counsellor uses. All you have to do is choose a counsellor who just feels like a good fit for you. That\u2019s all.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What issues do I work with?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I work with adults online by Zoom and I have some face to face appointments at my office in Exeter, Devon.
